Black and White Ink Pattern Project

In the Black and White Ink Pattern Project students had to focus on a number of different objectives. First they created a pattern sheet with 12 different patterns. These patterns had to have dark, medium, and light values as well as be "abstract," meaning they could not use any words, letters, numbers, or symbols. Then they chose an "organic shape" and traced it multiple times on their papers. The shape needed to create interesting "negative space," meaning that they had to try and break up the background in an interesting way and create a sense of "rhythm" to their project. Finally they filled in the shapes and the backgrounds making sure that they focused on creating a balanced project, by balancing the different values/patterns while also creating a "focal point," a place in the picture you eye goes to first.
