Excused Absences
Unexcused Absences
Excused Absences: Excused absences are defined as illness, family emergencies, bereavement, professional appointments, participation in authorized school-related activities, and opportunities of extraordinary educational value outside of school. To be excused, absences must be accompanied by a note from the parent/guardian within three days of the absence.
Students may make up the work for excused absences. It is the student's responsibility to arrange for all make-up work. The school, upon request, will assist in obtaining assignments. If this service is necessary, the request should be made to the office. Please allow 24 hours for teachers to prepare materials.
Students must request the makeup work within two (2) school days after returning to the class, and complete the work within a time determined by the teacher. Students who have an extended absence will be considered individually.
All school suspensions are considered excused absences.

Unexcused Absences: Any absence which is not considered excused, to include failure to verify the absence through written or verbal communication with parent or guardian. Absences not verified as excused within three (3) days of return to school will remain unexcused.
Unless approved by the administrator, a student will not receive credit for assignments or tests due on the day of an unexcused absence. All graded activities shall be treated as if the student had chosen not to participate in them. Consideration will be given only if substantial cause for the absence and no willful intent to miss school are evident.
Students who skip school to attend a school sponsored function will be counted truant and will be suspended from school. Students who pre-arrange an absence and choose to attend a school sponsored function for which they are not authorized to attend will be counted truant and will be dealt with as dictated by law.

Excessive absences: may cause a reduction in grades, provided the classroom teacher has established that the student's attendance and/or participation is related to the instructional objectives of the course, and has been identified by the teacher as a basis for grading in whole or in part.
Any work or time not made up for excused absences may result in reduction of the student's grade.
A student who has more than ten absences in any class during a semester may not be given credit for the class, even if the time and work have been made up for the class. Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed and considered by the administrator, with input from the students, parents, counselor, and teacher.
Making Up Work and Time Missed: It is the students responsibility to make up assignments missed following an excused absence. This may, at the discretion of the teacher, may necessitate making up missed classroom time. The amount of make up time assigned could range from 30 minutes per class missed to the total amount of time missed.
The teacher may assign time for any absence.

The attendance clerk is available every morning at the attendance window beginning at 7:05 AM. You must have a note to have an excused absence. If you forget your note, you still have to get an admit slip, but it will be unexcused. You may have your unexcused absence converted to excused by bringing a signed note and presenting it to the attendance clerk within three days of the absence.

Tardiness
Prearranged Absences
Bus Passes
Tardiness: Arriving late to class shows disrespect for the teacher and the students who are already in the process of learning. Students are allowed four minutes of passing time, and are expected to be in the classroom and in their seats before the class starting time. Three unexcused tardies in one class will be considered an absence.

Prearranged Absences: Students whose parents desire them to be absent from school for a full day or more must first prearrange the absence with the attendance clerk. Please bring a note to the attendance office, where you will receive a prearranged absence form which you take to each teacher to initial, then return to the attendance office. This must be done at least one day before the planned absence.
